What is objection handling?

If you are into sales, then you must be familiar with situations where your prospect shows resistance or presents a concern about the product or service you are trying to sell. This objection can be expressed either by clearly arguing, giving excuses or heading away from the sale in any way, such as:

  • "I like it, but I just need to think about it"

  • "Could you send information over so that I can process everything?"

  • "I’m just not interested"

  • “Let me speak to my partner and I’ll get back to you”

Your response to such situations in a way that persuades the prospect and allows the deal to move forward is called objection handling.

Why is it so important?

When you are faced with any objection in your personal or professional life, you only have a split-second to choose what to say. If you choose the wrong words or use the incorrect tone, there is no turning back.

Any inadequate preparation for those awkward moments can be frustrating and can lead to constant negative feedback, converting to a low self-esteem, low confidence and lack of motivation to carry on.

  • Assessment method: Assignment (Session 5)
